Our first National Safety Fall Prevention Stand-Down Meeting was on Tuesday, May 5,2015 at Hill Country Resort at 11:00 AM with 271 employees. Raul Carrillo with OSHA was guest speaker and mentioned three key words,"PLAN, PROVIDE, TRAIN". Sherman Faulkner with Keystone also spoke about Fall Prevention. Rick Segura ended the meeting by discussing Harvey-Cleary's SAFETY A’s PROGRAM.
The next National Stand Down facilitated was on May 11, 2015 for Hotel Emma. Arthur Jones and staff with Harvey-Cleary Safety held the meeting. There was a wonderful turn out with 118 employees in attendance to include superintendents and project managers. The discussion was centered around Falls Arrest Systems and Falls Restraint Systems. We shared information to the group about how falls were the leading cause of fatalities in the construction industry. We stressed the importance of inspecting all fall protection equipment before each use. We also explained how ladders have caused many deaths and how crucial it is to thoroughly inspect them every day before usage. We touched base on the Tying Off process to structures that are rated for 5,000 pounds especially when working near leading edges. We explained that a person can fall 4 feet per half second and 16 feet in 1 second. We provided that example to hopefully ensure the significance of the Tying Off Policy. We then opened the floor for Q&A and asked questions to review the above discussion. We believe this meeting was very beneficial to all employees that attended. Overall we have a much better understanding of how critical Fall Protection is in our line of business
Our final National Fall Prevention Stand-Down was on May 12, 2015 at Cellar Tower and Plaza at 11:45 AM with 85 employees. Alex Porter and Raul Carrillo with OSHA were guest speakers. They discussed falls from ladders, scaffolds, and leading edges. They also discussed fatalities in Texas alone, that two happen every day due to falls.
