Battelle Biological & Computational Science Facility

The Battelle Biological and Computational Science Facility project is a multidisciplinary research center combining biosafety level two wet research laboratories with extensive dry computational laboratories. The LEED Gold facility also includes office and conference spaces under high-security containment. We employed numerous energy reduction strategies on the project, including geothermal, heat recovery chillers, heat pipe systems in the air handlers, evaporative cooling, occupancy sensors tied to VAV air distribution, VAV fume exhaust, low-pressure drop ductwork designs and extensive sun-shading. Laboratory features include over 45 fume and laminar flow hoods, custom growth chambers, a glass washing suite, flexible lab furniture and a large reactor lab.
