COLLEGE HALL
This project involves renovating one of the most historic buildings on the Gallaudet University campus. Harvey Cleary transformed regular office and storage rooms into a private suite for the University Provost’s Office, opposite the University President’s Office. The renovation includes new finishes, custom millwork, and a glass storefront to partition the space from the building’s public areas. On the other side of the floor, Harvey Cleary renovated more offices and installed a new conference room for the President’s Office. The conference room features a new custom millwork double-style door and transom entrance and contains a custom millwork table integrated with a state-of-the-art video conferencing system. This system allows occupants to activate cameras with push-to-sign buttons, ensuring effective teleconferencing.
PEET HALL
Harvey Cleary has renovated the top two floors of this residence hall. The student rooms were removed to make way for new finishes to support campus Interpreting services and Gallaudet University Press. The restrooms have been relocated to make room for office storage, and new offices have been added. The space is now equipped with a new wireless daylight-controlled lighting system. The renovation includes two new pantries and a studio apartment accommodating visiting interpreting staff. Two storefronts have also been added, opening a scheduler room with new custom scheduler desks to promote collaboration. The space now also features two fully functional conference rooms and a new communicating staircase cut into the floor, allowing for improved foot traffic between the fourth and fifth floors.
STM LABORATORY
The STM Laboratory Expansion project at Gallaudet University involved renovating an already occupied building. The project included removing existing classrooms and adding new lab spaces and offices. Another critical aspect of the renovation was to create a communicating staircase between the third and fourth floors, which required cutting through the floor. The project also involved constructing a structural steel and glass Link to connect the previously disconnected North and South portions of the fourth floor.
During the second half of the project, Harvey Cleary constructed the Link and new lab space on the previously empty third floor. This allowed temporary lab space on the third floor while Harvey Cleary constructed a new one on the fourth. The new space has a sophisticated A/V package and a lighting control system that can respond to user requests for varying light levels. It can also adjust light levels in perimeter offices based on the actual natural light available from the exterior of the building.
