Lone Star Flight Museum

The Lone Star Flight Museum opened 30 years ago in Galveston with a private collection of historic aircraft. It is one of the only aircraft museums that fly their planes while also allowing visitor flights. In 2008, the museum was hit by Hurricane Ike, causing $20 million in damages and destroying multiple static displays and active aircraft. Today, the museum is a 130,000 SF structure on 14 acres, which includes two hangars and a main building for museum exhibits displaying over 40 planes, a restaurant, a café and office space. The building consists of tiltwall, pre-engineered metal, structural steel framing and an airplane that ties into Ellington Airfield’s taxiway.
